MEET VIRGINIA

FastTwitchGrandma was co-founded by Virginia Davies who took up sprinting in her fifties with the help of coach and co-founder Grayson Fertig. Sprinting is a way to train all five bio-motor abilities – speed, strength, endurance, balance and flexibility.

What was her motivation? She wanted to make certain she maintained her ability to play with her grandchildren.
FastTwitchGrandma aims to be a catalyst for transforming approaches to physical fitness for those over fifty.

Our digital and live platforms foster conversations between participants, scientists, coaches, personal trainers, clothing and equipment manufacturers and health care professionals. We focus on activities that are effective, easy to integrate into family/work life and are budget friendly. We affirm the desire to play as you did when you were younger for every day of your life.

FITNESS IS NOT A LUXURY

Fitness is not a luxury good that requires a gym membership, expensive trainer or trendy gear.  We believe in safely integrating fitness and athleticism into daily life in a way that allows you to capture the sense of carefree play you had as a child such as hopscotch on the sidewalk , jumping rope or playing catch in the park. Splurge on a little practice everyday.
Whether you are just beginning to think about your fitness or are a seasoned athlete, FastTwitchGrandma aims to assist you on your fitness journey with the latest scientific findings, testimonials and tips.

TIP OF THE DAY!

Glute fascia stretch

Muscles are surrounded by fascia to give them support and to connect different tissues. Manual therapy and soft tissue mobilizations can provide improved mobility because they address all layers of muscle and fascia. To perform self soft tissue mobilizations of the fascia use your hands or a lacrosse ball and apply pressure on the muscle as you move from a contracted position to a lengthened position.

Place the ball on your gluteal muscles with your leg extended. Move your leg forward and rotate your knee out as your roll the ball along the back of the hip. Move the ball to a different area along the length of the muscle and repeat the movements. Alternatively, roll the ball along the muscle as you complete the movements.
